Character Analysis: XGaster (Underverse)

“Put your foolishness aside for a moment. Coexisting will be the only imperfection I’m willing to accept. The boundaries which rule over all of us will be eradicated. I’ll take you to absolute perfection. I’m determined to persuade you, player. Even if it’s the hard way. Perfection or failure. THERE IS NO IN-BETWEEN.”

  • Series: Underverse.

  • Name: ☹︎⚐︎☼︎👎︎ ✠︎☝︎✌︎💧︎❄︎☜︎☼︎

  • Age: At least 105.

  • Origin: XTale.

  • Alignment: Neutral Evil.

  • Favorite Letter: X.

  • Likes: Perfection, anything he considers perfect. (Himself)

  • Dislikes: Imperfection, Mach 3.7, anything he considers imperfect. (Everything else)

One day, during the self-destruction of several universes, a dark corner of the multiverse gave life to a new universe. Despite being fairly new, the creator of the universe was seemingly destroying it for unknown reasons. The protector of the multiverse, Ink, rushed towards this universe in a desperate attempt to stop the creator from imploding everything he made. But when he entered the universe, all he saw was a flowery field, two children playing with glee and a man sitting with sorrow. This was XTale. The children soon were named XFrisk and XChara, and the man. The creator of the universe, a humble old man that soon became the most feared being in the entire multiverse, is XGaster.

XGaster possessed a unique trait to his soul that no one else in the multiverse could replicate, he had the power to distort and control his timeline however he pleased. He would try to use this to create a world where XFrisk and XChara could be happy, but doubted his work to the point where he would rather destroy his own soul then fail them again. But with a little motivation from Ink, who showed XGaster the multiverse and every story that exists, XGaster gathered up the power to make his greatest invention. The overwrite button. With this, XGaster can rewrite the reality of a universe to his liking. He would use this to create the best story for XFrisk and XChara, the best story in the multiverse. Any imperfection would be unacceptable.

From this point on, XGaster only became more and more corrupt in his goal to create the best story he possibly could. It was no longer about bringing happiness to the kids but to bring satisfaction to himself. He tormented them, tried many different routes based off of timelines he saw other universes possess, didn’t let them make their own choices and treated them like mere objects to be experimented on. After many, many overwrites that brought the timeline back to square one. XGaster had met his match when XFrisk and XChara became the X-Event and brought everyone of his creations memories back, all to kill him once and for all.

They did the best they could, but it was all for nothing. XGaster had separated his soul into two parts and was living off of stolen determination from XChara, he refused to die and watched in the shadows as his creations fought over XTale and soon wandered the multiverse to rebuild it. When the time came, Ink, who had held onto the other half of XGaster’s soul, released XGaster back into the multiverse at his full strength. No longer resembling the once insecure scientists, but as the ruler of all things perfect. He set his sights on the original universe, the one that he envied oh so much, in order to merge his world with it. And if anyone dared to refuse his offer for a peaceful and perfect utopia, then he would play by his own rules, but no matter what, only absolute perfection will remain.

Army

XAlphys

“I’ll do my best. I’m glad you're finally back, Lord XGaster.”

Every good scientist needs an assistant they can rely on, and in XGaster’s case, there is no better assistant than XAlphys. XAlphys is ruthless in her methods, following in her creator’s footsteps with no hesitation now that their mind has been overwritten to match XGaster’s ideology. XGaster can call upon his assistant at any time and she serves a vital role in his experiments.

XAsriel

“Stay determined, for our freedom.”

Timeline I. XGaster’s first attempt at a world to make XFrisk and XChara happy, the children were given a family and friends among other monsters and humans living in harmony. They were taken in by the Dreemurs, a family line XGaster saw in his recent trip to the multiverse, and raised as their children along with their blood child, XAsriel.

Together, the three of them would grow up and experience life. Until XGaster decided that the world needed to be improved and overwrote the timeline, separating the once close brothers. Now cold, much like every other XTale character present, he has dual swords and can control plants like his flower counterpart.

XAsgore

“You’re a human child that must be happy, and I’m an old monster willing to be the best father for you.”

Timeline II. XChara was left fairly upset after the overwriting of his previous home. But soon bonded with another member of the Dreemur family, this time the father and king of XTale, XAsgore. While XAsgore was raising XChara, XFrisk and XSans became very close friends. Enough to warrant XFrisk telling him about XGaster, who is usually left unknown to anyone.

However, this happiness would soon disgust XGaster as he overwrote the timeline to kill XAsgore and XSans to “make things more interesting.” Leading to a confrontation that left the timeline overwritten yet again. XAsgore is a formidable fighter, wielding a magical trident and capable of shooting fireballs.

XToriel

"We cannot solve this if someone is deprived of their liberty."

Timeline III. It was soon coming to XChara and XFrisk that XGaster no longer cared about making them happy, he only cared about himself. Being comforted by the mother of the Dreemur family, XToriel, they couldn’t do much to stop him before the next timeline was overwritten. This timeline only lasted a few days, and the bonds made were proven pointless. Not much is known about XToriel, aside from the fact that she never opens her eyes and utilizes purple magic in the form of dark fire.

XMuffet

“Please, take a seat and get ready for this world premiere extravaganza!”

Timeline IV. Despite wanting to create a world only for himself, XGaster didn’t overwrite or even interact with XChara or XFrisk for years. XChara dreaded the thought of XGaster deciding to end everything whenever he wanted, while XFrisk lived life with hopes of XGaster not intervening. During his life, he met XMuffet, a spider with a passion for baking and a special connection to XFrisk.

Unfortunately, XGaster started a genocide run by mind controlling XFrisk into killing anyone they say. Monsters and humans. XMuffet was devastated but after one of her spiders brought back information that told her everything she needed to know, she held XFrisk back and motivated XChara to punch XGaster in the stomach. Shortly after, the timeline was overwritten. XMuffet has a whip crafted from magical fiber and throwing daggers, along with having a venomous bite and being the goofiest goober in Underverse.

XUndyne

“Your human? The human is MY student… and we’re gonna beat the crap out of you.”

Timeline V. XChara and XFrisk have had enough. Not only with XGaster, but with his assistant XAlphys. XAlphys was one of the few creations of XGaster that kept its memories after every timeline, and she had done nothing to stop XGaster. XChara and XFrisk both tried to kill XAlphys but someone came to save her, her date for the day, XUndyne.

XUndyne realized that something was up so both she and XAlphys went to meet up with XChara and XFrisk to settle differences, and when being told the full story of what XGaster was doing, XUndyne began training XChara to defeat XGaster. And when they finally arrived to face XGaster once and for all, they were met with a dead and soon overwritten XAlphys. Soon, XUndyne was overwhelmed and killed. XGaster got what he wanted, he swapped half of his soul with XChara’s soul and then restarted the timeline. XUndyne is a fierce fighter with incredible strength and access to an infinite amount of spears that she uses as her primary weapon.

XMettaton

“I do understand your concern. The fact that there’s another you is a threat to that sense of uniqueness. I promise one of us will remain.”

Timeline VIII. Instead of leaving XFrisk dead and XChara a new student, XGaster let XFrisk come back but as a vessel to XChara. With XChara being a ghost on his shoulder at all times. XGaster instructed this prototype, which he calls the X-Event, to create something new. The X-Event got to work and made not only a robot, but a robot with feelings and a soul, XMettaton. Having taught XMettaton about emotions and about fighting, the X-Event was forced by XGaster to destroy their creation in cold blood, which they didn’t have the heart to do.

Then, in a moment of emotional anguish, their emotions projected onto XMettaton and XMettaoned attacked XGaster. Although it ultimately was destroyed. XGaster already didn’t approve of the X-Event’s creation, but this really set him off. Resulting in an increase in cruelty in training the X-Event and the overwriting of this timeline. XMettaton is considered the general of the royal guard and for good reason too, he was trained in using his laser sword, can extend his arms and can slurp up as many souls as he wants for a power boost in a mode called “Overdrive.”

XPapyrus

“I always thought the air of sorrow was normal in these lands… But now I understand that we are just your reflection. Next time, don’t give us real feelings, please.”

Timeline IX. XGaster, who split his soul into two parts, watched the world in secret and kept the X-Event hidden from everyone. However, one day, a seemingly random monster ended up getting involved in the X-Event conflict, this monster was XPapyrus.

XPapyrus befriended XGaster when they first met, but soon was very disappointed in him after the X-Event brought XPapyrus’s memories back. The X-Event then combined the powers of both an overwrite and reset to warp space and time to bring them to the underground in a new timeline. XPapyrus wields a scythe made up of his signature bones and is surprisingly a very good fighter when he wants to be.

XFrisk

“We can’t enjoy life in any world created by XGaster.”

Last but not least, the final part of the XEmpire is one of the first beings in XTale, XFrisk. While XChara still defies XGaster to this day, XFrisk has completely lost all sense of faith and now serves in his order. XFrisk has an artificial soul created by XGaster to replace his lost soul, and this soul is represented in his weapon of choice, a soul sword.

Equipment

Hand Constructs

For his main method of attack, XGaster can summon floating hands to swarm his opponent and hold them in place. Usually XGaster has only 8 hands surrounding him at all times but can likely summon more if he pleases. All of these hands have retractable spikes capable of absorbing HP, magic and any other trait from his opponent’s soul.

Data Compilation/Entries

All of the timelines XGaster has overwritten are represented as pieces of paper referred to as entries, and he keeps these entries compiled into a data compilation. Having access to all of these entries lets XGaster pull certain parts of the entries into whatever reality he currently is in. This includes characters, places, memories etc. Entries don’t always have to be timelines either, things such as souls have been shown to be able to be transferred into entries for XGaster to use later on.

Soul Vial

Before his “death”, XGaster split his soul into two parts. The human half of his soul, stolen from XChara, remained with his body while his purple half was sealed within a vial. When the vial breaks, XGaster comes back into being, ready to make the best story he possibly can.

Unlimited Vial

Yet another vial, this one is shown to replenish emotions and refill every time it’s closed. Although that may sound useful for anyone lacking emotions or a soul, drinking this temporarily infuses XCode into your being and makes you experience pain on such a level that it paralyzes you and makes you have visions about XGaster.

Quarantine

Made by XGaster as a way to prevent a universe and its timelines from being corrupted, the Quarantines are sheets of paper that absorb the AU and compresses it into data fragments.

Burger

I could not tell you why he’s eating a burger but it’s awesome so I’m not complaining.

Wine

Classy ass bitch.

Abilities

Overwrite

Made, with the power of his own soul, the overwrite button in many ways is what started it all. Overwrite, well, overwrites reality itself in a timeline however the user sees fit. It works by embracing the darkness around one's soul and seeing a fragment of light. By concentrating, you can give this light a form, texture and any other detail you can think of. Allowing you to construct anything out of nothing and modify everything from a thought. Overwrite operates on a cosmic level as well, being able to affect entire timelines and multiverses in a moment.

It’s far beyond regular reality warping as well, it functions working on code, which we will soon learn encompasses every aspect of one's being. Overwrite can steal code for itself, copy it just by visualizing the code or download certain pieces of code into a database. These pieces of code can include anything that is connected to you, which yes, does mean that overwrite can affect things such as your abilities and realistically even stats. To put this in perspective, that means that XGaster can potentially remove your stats if he really wanted to.

Overwrite has far too many abilities to label off in one section, which is why its uses will be broken down into multiple parts.

Determination/Immortality

In an effort to defy death, XGaster gave up half of his original soul with XChara and gained a powerful dosage of determination in the process. While he did lose XChara’s half overtime, he maintained the ability to use determination. Determination lets XGaster perform what is known as a reset, a button that can send everyone in a timeline to whatever point in time, and replicate the effects of an overwrite at the cost of harming his body. His determination was so strong that it let him keep on living so long as he refuses to die, even if his body is melting away every second.

Magic

Monsters often attack not through sheer force but through the use of magic specific to them. A Monster’s magic is usually dependent on the monster's resolve and control over their emotions. In XGaster’s case, his skeleton-like physiology grants him magic akin to Cross and XPapyrus. He can create bones, summon gaster blasters to shoot energy beams, make himself float and teleport at will.

Emotional Domain

Nah, he’d overwrite. Similar to the fight mechanics in undertale, fights and encounters can be started with the instigator pulling the opponent’s soul and surrounding area in a dark void where their magic auto-applies to any soul caught in the void. Any normal monster and human can use this for traditional combat but XTale characters like XGaster are especially unique in that their domain is a mass of their negative emotions that can alter reality itself.

XCode Physiology

In Underverse, everyone and everything is canonically made up of code. Not only are they in verse part of a game, with a player and audience watching over them, but their code is what gives them an identity specific to where they come from. Code acts as the true essence of one's being, it makes up your soul, body and memories. Souls themselves contain the minds and emotions of their respected hosts.

Once again, XTale characters are special since their “XCode”, as I like to call it, is entirely made up of pain so strong that it can paralyze an emotionless being with pain. Which should apply to XGaster as well since his creations are a reflection of himself.

Data Manipulation

Code isn’t just something XGaster is made of, he’s able to manipulate code to turn practically anything into code in order to keep certain code fragments for himself or to delete it later. He can even reset your code. Cross, with XGaster’s powers, could extract code from other worlds and send it to his own.

But if he ever wants to compromise code, he can let out the XVirus, a malicious virus that corrupts others with XCode. Which lets XGaster control them as a makeshift army. And as mentioned before, all of these abilities work on your body, soul, mind, emotions and memories.

Regeneration

XGaster has been shown to be capable of rejuvenating his code if it has suffered damage. While we are unsure if this is manual healing or passive regeneration, similar usages of overwrite have been able to regenerate the core code of others over a period of time.

Healing/Resurrection

Naturally, his army is far more fragile than himself. Luckily for him, Overwrite can heal others in an instant and bring the dead back to life however many times he likes. So there’s no need to be worried about the death of his empire when he can always bring them back lickety-split.

Soul Manipulation

Did you expect anything else from an undertale related character? XGaster has several ways to attack your soul directly, usually through brute force. He can pierce and absorb souls with his hand spikes, create real and artificial souls and straight up rip souls out of people with his bare hands.

Mind Manipulation

His excellent manipulation and cunning already make him an expert at controlling one's mentality, but when you factor in him being able to overwrite others minds, he becomes an insane mental threat. Overwrite also can make a large number of people into puppets that share the same emotions as the person controlling them.

Possession

XGaster can hijack the bodies of his creations to help them fight and make sure they do what he wants.

Memory Manipulation

Throughout Underverse, there have been many occasions where either XGaster or the X-Event had brought back everyone’s memories with overwrite. This includes XGaster’s invasion of the original universe and his own death. Overwrite isn’t bound to just bring back memories, erasing certain memories or programming fake ones are certainly on the table as well.

Illusion Casting

His attacks, on impact with your soul, can cause your psyche to experience illusions of your friends and family before your soul is shattered completely and can make you see others from previous timelines.

Dream Manipulation

As shown in XTra scene number 2, XGaster has the power to invade people's dreams and  warp them to act as warnings or as just plain intimidation. Comparable characters like XChara, who shares the same powers as XGaster, can enter dreams and make the dreamer experience false memories and can hurt them in their dreams like Freddy Krueger.

Creation

XGaster is far from being limited to manipulating what already exists, he can create virtually anything he sets his mind to. Most of which are life, such as a butterfly and every entity in XTale. His creation abilities are so advanced that he’s able to create a perfect replica of another's weapon, likely through copying its code since that’s how other characters are able to make exact copies of objects.

Summoning

With a snap of his fingers, XGaster can bring any of his creations to his location if he ever needs assistance.

Dimensional Travel

When he was still a respectful scientist, XGaster used to travel the multiverse for motivation to fuel his work. Having brought despair to the multiverse more times then one. Similarly, his shared power with the X-Event means he can do anything that they can do, which means XGaster can freely transport himself and others into whatever world he wants.

BFR

Overwrite, and the power of XGaster’s soul, have been shown to be able to take bits of code and send them to other universes. Whether it be places or people, hell, overwrite can even send someone to a different landscape.

Cosmic Awareness

While characters in Underverse have relatively weak knowledge of other universes, they have a special sense when it comes to knowledge of timelines that belong to the same universe. Where they can know exactly what has happened in other timelines due to an anomaly from the main universe.

Clairvoyance

XGaster’s vision isn’t limited to his own two eyes, he can see out of his creations and has extra eyes to see into other dimensions as shown above.

Telepathy

He’s able to communicate with beings from that universe telepathically. Being able to talk with them through their subconscious and apparently can eat burgers there. For some reason.

Precognition

For someone who is assured for an absolutely perfect future. XGaster seems much more concerned about his future then he wants you to think. Hence why he developed the ability to see fragments of both the future and time in general. This is how he was able to dream the day of his death and predict the crucial absence of Cross. Which he later used to slip away and survive.

Acausality

If there’s one thing XGaster hates, it’s the existence of timelines. He takes having alternative versions of how a story could go as an insult to his perfect story, which is why he has made XTale the only universe with absolutely no timelines in it. As in, there is no other alternative version of XGaster from any point in time, only the XGaster that exists in the present. This strange singularity paradox allows XGaster to be effectively immune to time manipulation and resets, since he doesn’t exist in any timeline besides the main timeline.

Time Manipulation

By himself, XGaster can stop time dead in its tracks on command for as long as he wants, although in some cases he has a fairly limited timeframe. However, using a reset means that XGaster can reverse time to certain points to prevent incidents from messing his perfect world up. Even if it creates timelines he isn’t a fan of.

Spatial Manipulation

Along with his control over time, XGaster’s overwrite has been shown to be able to distort the spatial placement of others. Controlling what space they occupy in an instant.

Fate Manipulation

During a time where he only had half of his soul, XGaster describes that overwrite would’ve granted him the power to “turn off events” from any point in time. Allowing him to basically choose what happens and when it happens.

Causality Manipulation

XGaster doesn’t just control over the reality and space-time of XTale, he has complete control over the effect of choices. Normally, choices in Underverse result in the timeline branching out into different possibilities. But with XGaster, he can make it so that the effects of the choices do not create new timelines or any other possibility other than the main universe.

Chaos Manipulation

When XTale first came into being, the essence of XGaster’s soul was passively destroying the universe without him even knowing it. Nowadays, he’s a lot more skilled at utilizing his soul for his own desires and can perform a feat akin to this destruction of a timeline.

Existence Erasure

Overwrite users can target pieces of code, such as soul, mind, memories etc and erase them from the timeline completely. Like what he did to Cross’s memories and If you were to take song lyrics seriously, he can devour all of existence.

Corruption

Overwrite can cause once innocent beings to turn into ungodly abominations that attack anything they see without question.

Transmutation

By modifying the core code of objects, overwrite can change the structure of objects and transform them. Like changing leaves into snow and then flowers or changing a pencil into a functioning pen.

Pain Manipulation

Having created the Unlimited Vial, XGaster should be comparable to whatever it can do, the Unlimited Vial was able to fuse Ink’s code with code of that of a XTale character. To where he felt pain so bad that it immobilized him and let him see the future of XGaster’s plans.

Emotion Projection

The X-Event, when trying to prove its first creation, was able to share its emotions onto XMettaton. Causing him to attack XGaster in a fiery rage before promptly being dismantled.

Weather Manipulation

The arrival of the XEmpire in the original universe caused a storm to shift over the area, likely due to XGaster himself given how different the weather was earlier that day.

Power Nullification

Overwrite can take control over your abilities and forcefully shut them down so long as overwrite remains active.

Regeneration Negation

Ah, so that’s where his legs went. Using overwrite the form of two twin blades, the X-Event was able to slice off XGaster’s legs. Permanently. XGaster’s regeneration was unable to recover his legs and was left floating in mid air.

Fourth Wall Awareness

✂︎✋︎︎ ☟︎︎✌︎︎✞︎︎☜︎︎ 👌︎︎☜︎︎☜︎︎☠︎︎ 🕈︎︎✌︎︎❄︎︎👍︎︎☟︎︎✋︎︎☠︎︎☝︎︎ ✡︎︎⚐︎︎🕆︎︎📪︎︎ ✞︎︎✋︎︎☜︎︎🕈︎︎☜︎︎☼︎✂︎

XGaster has been observing us for quite a long time, he’s analyzed our interest and has acknowledged the existence of the player, aka, the player from the original undertale. So now you have a perfectionist watching over your movements and actions as you read this blog! How nice.

Feats

Overall

  • Invented the Overwrite button from his own soul.

  • Controlled over XTale for 11 timelines before it was destroyed.

  • Rewrote countless timelines.

  • Manipulated and controlled the events of Underverse behind the scenes.

  • Played a game that eventually led to the destruction of the multiverse.

  • Predicted his own death and split his soul in order for him to be awakened later on.

  • Set his sights on merging his universe with the original universe for “absolute perfection.”

  • ✂︎👍︎︎❒︎︎♏︎︎♋︎︎⧫︎︎♏︎︎♎︎︎ ⧫︎︎♒︎︎♏︎︎ ♌︎︎♏︎︎⬧︎︎⧫︎︎ ⬧︎︎⧫︎︎□︎︎❒︎︎⍓︎︎ ♓︎︎■︎︎ ⧫︎︎♒︎︎♏︎︎ ❍︎︎◆︎︎●︎︎⧫︎︎♓︎︎❖︎︎♏︎︎❒︎︎⬧︎︎♏︎︎✂︎

  • Somehow has rizz.

❽︎☟︎︎︎⚐︎︎︎🕈︎︎︎ 👎︎︎︎✌︎︎︎☼︎︎︎☜︎︎︎ ✡︎︎︎⚐︎︎︎🕆︎︎︎ 💧︎︎︎☹︎︎︎✌︎︎︎☠︎︎︎👎︎︎︎☜︎︎︎☼︎︎︎ 🏱︎︎︎☜︎︎︎☼︎︎︎☞︎︎︎☜︎︎︎👍︎︎︎❄︎︎︎✋︎︎︎⚐︎︎︎☠︎︎︎📬︎︎︎ ✋︎︎︎ ☟︎︎︎✌︎︎︎✞︎︎︎☜︎︎︎ ☠︎︎︎⚐︎︎︎ ☞︎︎︎☹︎︎︎✌︎︎︎🕈︎︎︎💧︎︎︎📬︎︎︎ 👎︎︎⚐︎︎ ☠︎︎⚐︎︎❄︎︎ ☹︎︎✋︎︎💧︎︎❄︎︎☜︎︎☠︎︎ ❄︎︎⚐︎︎ ❄︎︎☟︎︎✋︎︎💧︎︎ 🏱︎︎🕆︎︎❄︎︎☼︎︎✋︎︎👎︎︎ 👍︎︎☼︎︎🕆︎︎💧︎︎❄︎︎✌︎︎👍︎︎☜︎︎✌︎︎☠︎︎❾︎︎

No matter how much he tries to be as perfect as he possibly can, XGaster can never truly run from his flaws forever. The most fatal of which is arrogance, he views himself as the pinnacle of the multiverse and this can lead to him underselling the determination and strength of his adversaries. While he is admittedly a genius and an expert in his usage of overwrite, he lacks head on experience when it comes to fighting. He thinks of himself above fighting of course, he would much rather sit back and use overwrite.

Ironically enough, the most vulnerable thing about XGaster’s form is his most powerful attribute, his soul. His soul is reflected within his own creations and can be targeted by others, and given that his data has both his soul, mind, emotions and more as discussed before. It can be very easily manipulated by users of those abilities. Although it does have to be through one of his creations.

Overall

“Evolution requires sacrifice.”

  • Attack Potency ranges from Multiversal+ to 5D, potentially 6D.

  • Speed ranges from MFTL+ to Immeasurable (not mach 3 thank god)

  • Dangerously versatile army, which he can summon and resurrect at any time.

  • Genius when it comes to his cunning, planning and knowledge of overwrite.

  • Overwrite lets him control reality, time, space, matter, choices, souls, minds, memories and the very essence of your being however he likes. Which includes copying aspects of your being, meaning he can likely copy and remove stats and abilities from others.

  • Can control/regenerate code, which contains the body, soul, mind, emotions and memories. Giving him mid-godly regeneration at the very least.

  • Is the only XGaster to exist, period. There are no other alternate versions of him from across time.

  • Passively can destroy timelines around him and is the only existing variation of XGaster.

  • Can corrupt data into his own through corruption and the XVirus, which contains every aspect of one's being. Including the mind, emotions, soul, memories etc.

  • Main weakness is his insane arrogance and the fact that he can be targeted through his data.

Possible Opponents

Anti-Spiral (Gurren Lagann)

(Thumbnail by me)

(absolutely stunning track art by Human)

Oh this matchup brings me back. This matchup was the entire reason I got into this community in the first place, despite me being fairly annoying back then now thinking about it. In any case, this is one of my favorite matchups in general. It goes into XGaster’s motive in a very unique way by having a very sharp contrast. XGaster, as you can tell, is a man who evolved his abilities to its fullest potential, achieving a perfect world in his image through evolution and developing his abilities. Anti-spiral is a collective consciousness of a race that learned to reject their evolution, thinking it would cause the death of the universe and making it so no one else evolves to threaten the universe. Their ideologies directly oppose each other, which opens the door for so many interactions and story potential. With a dynamic that is both really fun and wild in scale, since I can totally see XGaster getting cosmic in scale. Relative to Anti-spiral at least. I adore so much about this matchup, from the contrasts, to the overall theme, potential, banter and everything else really. I wish it was more debatable, but seeing XGaster get a beating from Anti-spiral is pretty satisfying.

Xehanort (Kingdom Hearts)

(Thumbnail by me)

I would like to say, first off, I don’t know basically anything about Kingdom Hearts so if I get anything wrong, preferably don’t hang me. To my knowledge, this is XGaster’s most popular and I’m certainly not complaining. It’s very cool and my favorite alt for XGaster. The thematics are arguably the best out of XGaster’s options (This post does a better job explaining them) and their condensing yet controlling personalities open a door for plenty of interactions and sick banter. Xehanort has a lot to throw at XGaster that I think plays off overwrite well. I think it’s also decently close? I’ve heard conflicting things about Kingdom Hearts scaling so I guess I’ll stay out of the debate but from what I know they should be around the same stats. Overall, I really like this one and it’s definitely a good option even if it isn't my favorite.

Aizen (Bleach)

(Thumbnail by Parking_External_182)

I don’t actually have that much to say for this one other than the fact that I really want to see them interact. Aizen is one of my favorite anime villains of all time despite my Bleach being rusty and I think he compliments the ‘convoluted plan for unspeakable power’ aspect of XGaster well. It doesn’t have all that much thematically but I click with the interactions and decently fun dynamic well enough.

Director Phobos (Madness Combat)

(Thumbnail by me)

Now THIS is a matchup I can talk about. Not because I prefer it to the other options but because this matchup is basically tailored made for me, I absolutely adore Madness Combat and Project Nexus. Director Phobos is one of my favorite characters there and I think the existence of this blog shows how much I like XGaster. In terms of thematics, “two incredibly narcissistic and prideful leaders of an operation originally designed for peaceful purposes, but shifted into something much more cruel by yours truly. They died by an underling of theirs but that played a part in their plan to become what they think to be a god.” is a solid theme. I like the aesthetic a bunch, banter can be really funny with how pathetic and arrogant these guys can be, army fight can be cool and I really like the idea of Godhood Phobos vs XGaster at his peak. I’ve actually researched Madness Combat pretty in depth, I think this one is a close one. I honestly don’t know who would actually win but gun to my head… I would say XGaster but that could very well change.

Closing Words

Been awhile since I did a respect thread huh? This’ll be my first time uploading one of these to blogger, so if things look a little off that’s because I’m still tinkering with the formatting. I need it to be perfect… oh yeah speaking of perfect.

I would like to say that I did not use the Secret Entries for XGaster because they are non-canon and I couldn’t get my hands on a digital one. This was also made before Underverse 0.8 so it could very well be outdated as Underverse wraps up its story. I sadly cannot see into the future (yet).

I have a ton of new projects cooking up, including making a new blog series with my friends. We are currently working on the premiere so stay tuned, I’m sure your mind will be blasted away at the matchup we’ve chosen.

Anyway, that’s all I really have to say. Once again I really enjoy making threads like this. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a good one!
